Nathalia Fernandez is the New York State Senator for District 34, encompassing the Bronx and Westchester. She chairs the Senate Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorders Committee and is a leading voice in the fight against the overdose crisis. The daughter of Cuban and Colombian immigrants, Fernandez shares a profound commitment to her community and a passion for public service.
 
Starting her career as Executive Coordinator and Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Mark Gjonaj, she later joined Governor Andrew Cuomo's staff as the Governor’s Office Bronx representative. Elected to the New York State Assembly in 2018, Fernandez championed affordable healthcare, protecting the environment, and creating good-paying jobs.
 
In 2022, Fernandez became the first Latina to represent Senate District 34 and the first person of Cuban descent to serve in the State Senate, where she continues to advocate for working families, seniors, young people, and marginalized communities. Fernandez is a strong voice for the people of New York who is committed to making a difference for her constituents.
